How to choose a broadband provider
Start with what reaches your address, not the brand. Full fibre is available to more homes every month, from national networks and from independent altnets building in towns and villages. Then size the package for your household at its busiest time, and only then compare price.
- Speed for the whole home. A faster package gives every device more room at once; it doesn't make one device faster. See why.
- Upload speed. Video calls, cloud backups and creators need fast uploads. Symmetrical full fibre gives the same speed both ways. Learn more.
- Contract and price rises. Check the length and how much the price rises each year. Price rises explained.
- WiFi coverage. Larger homes or thick walls may need mesh WiFi. Do I need mesh?
- Support. Home businesses may want guaranteed fix times and a static IP. Home business broadband.

Frequently asked questions
Which broadband provider is best?
The best provider is the one that reaches your address with a package that suits your home. Cooper checks what is available at your postcode and picks one package based on how many people and devices use the internet, whether you work from home, game or upload a lot, and what matters most to you.
What is the difference between a provider and a network?
The network is the cables in the ground, such as Openreach, CityFibre or an independent altnet. The provider is the company you pay. Many providers sell over the same network, while some altnets build their own network and sell to you directly.
Are smaller full fibre providers reliable?
Independent full fibre networks (altnets) often give faster uploads and better local support than older copper services. Check the contract length, price rise terms and support hours, which Cooper shows on every deal.
Can I switch provider without a gap in service?
Usually yes. Under Ofcom's One Touch Switch process your new provider arranges the switch and your old service ends when the new one starts.
